The rose bed pictured has looked pretty ragged since we bought this house and I’ve been wondering what to do with it. Thankfully there was a pleasant surprise in store this January….
You Fooled Us All
A bed bereft, listless, pained,
Looked dire, dismal, dreary, drained,
Weedy, thorny, a paupers haul,
But ah, you fooled us all!
Buried snowdrops pushed peeking, trooping,
Soil born soldiers rising, drooping,
Though nature shrunk against the wall,
It’s then you fooled us all!
Such good timing, cheering, reminding that
Spring comes soon, sprouting, chiming.
So small to answer New Years call,
Thanks. You fooled us all.
